Lethe Fix
Lethe Fix is a body of work inspired by spoken and written accounts based on memories that I have collected over the past 2 years. The stories I collected come from a variety of sources including friends, family, and anonymous submissions through the internet. The memories I have chosen to work from are mostly moments of heightened, difficult emotions that resonate with my own history and memories of childhood. Using an flatbed scanner, I create complex, surreal compositions that lie somewhere in between still life and collage. The physical condition of the objects and photographs in my images represent the fluctuating and deteriorative qualities of memory. Research claims us that memories are constantly being reconstructed each time we recall an original event. Through the manipulative and distortion capabilities of the scanner, I want to show how memories are unstable whispers of images that will never be seen in the same manner twice. Although the viewer has limited access to the original memories, I hope that my interpretation will provide the foundation for another story.
